Salesforce Has Voicemail Drop. Read the Fine Print.
Unlike most CRMs, Salesforce ships a voicemail drop feature today, inside Sales Dialer. The fine print is on Salesforce’s own Dialer Limitations page: users with the voicemail drop feature can store up to 10 pre-recorded messages, the org can hold up to 20 voicemail messages of two minutes each, and every one is saved as a Salesforce file that counts toward the file storage quota. Calling works to the US and Canada only, in Lightning Experience on desktop only.
The same page carries a bigger notice: Sales Dialer is scheduled for retirement, no new features or enhancements are being added, and new licenses stopped being sold in Winter 26. Salesforce has not published a formal end-of-life date, but a capped feature inside a product in managed decline is not a foundation to build an outbound motion on. Teams that lean on voicemail drop are deciding now where it lives next.
Salesforce’s recommended destination, Salesforce Voice, now includes Voicemail Drop for Outbound Calls: a library of up to 10 recordings, on Salesforce Voice with Amazon Connect or a supporting partner telephony provider. It is a real feature, inside a separately licensed contact center product for Enterprise and higher editions.
Voicemail Drop Without the Storage Quota or the Countdown
Kixie’s native Salesforce integration moves voicemail drop out of the retiring product and into the dialing layer. Reps build a library of pre-recorded voicemails in Kixie, and when a machine answers, one click drops the right message and the dialer moves on. Voicemail files live in Kixie’s included cloud storage, so your Salesforce admin never does file storage math on a rep’s voicemail library.
The pace changes too. Sales Dialer works call lists one line at a time. Kixie’s Salesforce power dialer dials your Leads and Contacts on multiple lines in parallel, straight from a Salesforce list view, and with AI Human Voice Detection (a premium add-on) connects reps only to live answers. Every machine becomes a one-click drop instead of a greeting and beep.
Every Drop Becomes Salesforce Data
A drop only counts if Salesforce knows it happened. Kixie’s automatic call logging writes each drop to the matching Lead or Contact as a completed Task with the Type field set and a voicemail disposition recorded, and the activity rolls up to the Account and Opportunity. Managers can report on drops per rep and per campaign next to connects, without asking anyone for notes. One admin step matters: make the Task Type field visible via Field Accessibility so drops log as typed Tasks instead of typeless ones.
The One-Two Punch: Voicemail Plus Email
The typed disposition is what unlocks the play Sales Dialer never had. Because the drop lands in Salesforce as structured data, a Flow can key on the voicemail disposition and send the matching email template automatically, a recipe documented in Kixie’s Salesforce support articles. One click from the rep, and the prospect hears the voicemail and finds the matching email within about a minute, both logged on the same record. Wire that disposition into your outbound cadences and every unanswered dial still advances the sequence.
Scripts, Rotation, and an Honest Expectation
Record more than one message. A cold lead list, a demo no-show list, and a renewal list deserve different 20 to 30 second scripts, and rotating scripts across repeat attempts keeps a second or third drop from sounding robotic. Since your Flow is about to send the matching email, the strongest scripts point the prospect to the inbox they are about to check.
And the honest part: voicemail drop does not guarantee callbacks. Most voicemails go unreturned no matter who leaves them. What the feature reliably delivers is recovered rep time, a consistent message, and a logged Salesforce activity your automation can build real follow-up on. The callback, when it comes, usually comes from the sequence, not the single message.
Voicemail drop is also not ringless voicemail. The drop happens on a real outbound call that rang and went unanswered. Ringless voicemail inserts a message without the phone ringing, and the FCC ruled in 2022 that ringless voicemail to mobile phones is a call under the TCPA requiring prior consent. Kixie’s Voicemail Drop keeps you on the live-call side of that line.
Getting Started
You need Salesforce Professional edition or higher with API access and a Kixie account. Connect with one click, have your admin make the Task Type field visible, record your first voicemails, and load a Salesforce list view into the PowerDialer. Then build one Flow: voicemail disposition in, email template out. Your next unanswered dial becomes two logged touches, with no storage quota and no retirement clock attached.
