What Happens When You Click a Phone Number in Pipedrive
Pipedrive’s own knowledge base says it plainly: “Pipedrive doesn’t have a built-in calling integration.” Click a phone number in the web app and the callto: syntax simply hands the number to whichever calling app is registered to answer it. There is no screen pop, no caller ID panel, no way to control the call from inside the CRM. Inbound is a bigger blank: nothing in the Pipedrive web app rings when a prospect calls back. Pipedrive retired its native Caller dialer years ago, and the current guidance in its knowledge base is to install a calling app from the Marketplace and set it as the default calling app in your calling settings. Kixie PowerCall & SMS is one of the apps that article names.
Set Kixie as that default and the click stops being a handoff. The PowerCall dialer places the call, shows the Pipedrive record you are talking to, and writes the results back the moment you hang up. The phone becomes part of Pipedrive instead of a separate device that happens to sit next to it.
The Screen Pop: Pipedrive Context Before You Say Hello
Kixie PowerCall works as a Pipedrive-driven caller ID. On inbound and outbound calls, the dialer pops the matching Pipedrive Person, so the rep knows who is on the line before saying hello instead of typing the number into Pipedrive search mid-greeting. One click in the dialer opens the contact or deal page in a new tab: no searching, no guessing which of three similar names is the right one.
Work the Record Without Leaving the Dialer
The pop is not just a nameplate. While the call is live, a rep can edit the Pipedrive contact’s basic information directly in the dialer: correct a title, fix an email, update a company. When the call ends, the rep logs a call outcome with notes and can schedule a future Pipedrive Call Activity for the follow-up, all from the same window. The call starts and finishes on one surface, and Pipedrive stays current without a single tab switch.
Unknown Numbers Become Pipedrive People
When a call comes in from a number with no matching Person, Kixie can create the Pipedrive contact automatically, so the conversation, the outcome, and the recording land on a real record instead of vanishing into a missed-call memory. The setting is on by default and can be toggled off for teams that prefer to create contacts manually.
Click to Call From Any Pipedrive Page or List View
Outbound gets the same treatment. Click-to-call works from a Person page, a Deal page, or a filtered list view, and Kixie’s DirectSync logs those dials straight to the exact record you clicked rather than matching by phone-number search after the fact. That distinction matters whenever duplicate numbers exist: search-based matching has to pick a contact, while DirectSync already knows which one you meant. For list views, DirectSync is a one-time setting an admin enables. One requirement worth knowing up front: keep dialable numbers in Pipedrive’s default person phone field, because that is where Kixie reads them.
This page covers the live-call surface. What happens to the data afterward, including the Answered Call and Missed Call activity types, the mirror to the linked Organization and Deal, and the multi-deal tiebreak, is covered on the automatic call logging for Pipedrive page.
Where to Go From Here
If your team spends serious hours on outbound calling, the same default-calling-app foundation powers the Kixie PowerDialer for Pipedrive: multi-line dialing over your Pipedrive contacts with every outcome logged. Every connected call also carries its recording, detailed on the Pipedrive call recording page. For the full calling and texting picture, start with the complete Pipedrive integration. Setup takes a few clicks with any paid Pipedrive plan, and then one settings change makes Kixie the default calling app for the whole team.
